The Power of the Page Exercise
For You: Your Clarity Writing Experiment
- The Three-Type Trial: Over the next week, try each type of writing for ten minutes: brain dump (write whatever comes to mind), problem-focused (pick one specific challenge), and structured gratitude (use the five-point framework). Notice which type gives you the most clarity or relief.
- The Insight Tracker: After each writing session, jot down one word that captures how you feel (lighter, clearer, stuck, etc.) and note any surprises or “aha” moments. What patterns emerge about when writing is most helpful for you?
Your Team: The Five-Minute Focus
- Team Clarity Sessions: Start one team meeting per week with a five-minute individual writing exercise: “What’s one work challenge that’s been circling in your mind?” Follow with voluntary sharing of insights (not problems but what became clearer through writing).
- Decision-Making Enhancement: Before tackling a complex team decision, have everyone spend three to four minutes writing their initial thoughts privately, then share. Assure everyone in the room of confidentiality so they feel safe to share their thoughts. Notice if the quality of discussion improves when people have had time to clarify their thinking on paper first.
