Permission Slips Exercise
For You: Your Personal Permission Practice
- The Permission Slip Experiment: Write yourself a permission slip for one specific way you’ll create spaciousness today. Use this format: “Today I give myself permission to . . .” Keep it visible and notice what internal resistance comes up— what voices try to talk you out of it?
- The Permission Check-In: At day’s end, reflect: What did honoring your permission slip allow you to feel, notice, or create? What would have been different if you hadn’t given yourself that permission? Notice the ripple effects of that spaciousness.
Your Team: Collective Permission Culture
- Team Permission Round: Have each person write a permission slip for creating space in their work week that could support better thinking or creativity. Share them (if comfortable) and notice common themes— what permissions do your team members most need to give themselves?
- Permission Follow-Up: The following week, check in: How did honoring those permission slips impact work quality, creativity, or team dynamics? What did you notice about productivity when you created space vs. when you didn’t? Use insights to establish team norms around protecting thinking time.
