Stillness in Motion Exercise
For You: Building Your Stillness Menu
- The Humming Test: Try three different activities this week that you think might create stillness for you. During each one, try to hum. If you can hum comfortably while doing the activity, it passes the test for mental spaciousness. Create your personal “stillness menu” from these activities.
- The Fifteen-Minute Commitment: From your stillness menu, pick one activity and commit to fifteen minutes of it within the next three days. No goals, no improvement focus, no multitasking— just the activity itself. Notice what thoughts or insights bubble up during or afterward.
Your Team: Workplace Stillness Discovery
- The Office-Friendly Audit: Have team members brainstorm stillness activities that could work in or near the workplace (e.g., walking meetings, desk organizing, doodling during calls, brief outdoor breaks). Create a shared list of “ office-appropriate stillness” options.
- The Midday Reset Experiment: Challenge your team to try one ten-minute stillness-in-motion activity (e.g., walking, stretching, organizing, even mindful coffee making) during their workday for one week. Share observations: Did it impact focus, creativity, or problem-solving?
