For You: Creating Your Natural Space
- The Sensory Audit: Walk through your primary workspace and identify which of your five senses currently connect you to nature (or could). Rate each sense 1–10 for “nature connection.” Pick your lowest-scoring sense and make one specific change this week— add a plant for sight, nature sounds for hearing, essential oils for smell, natural textures for touch, or herbal tea for taste.
- The Ten-Minute Nature Reset: Create your personal “nature emergency kit” for when you’re stuck indoors or in windowless spaces. It might include noise-cancelling headphones with a nature soundscape playlist, a small collection of natural objects (e.g., stones, pinecones, shells), or photos that transport you to your favorite outdoor place. Test it daily for one week during stressful moments. What do you notice?
Your Team: Collective Nature Integration
- The Team Biophilia Map: Have each team member identify their most effective way to connect with nature during work (e.g., using plants, natural light, sounds, scents, textures). Create a shared map of what works for whom, then collectively audit your shared spaces. What small changes could benefit the whole team’s mental spaciousness?
- The Fresh Air Protocol: Establish team rituals incorporating natural elements into your work rhythm. This could be “windows open” meetings when weather permits, starting team calls with thirty seconds of nature sounds, or designating one person each week to “bring nature to work” where that team member brings in flowers, plants, or something green.
